Sedona launches major improvements to tackle traffic congestion and enhance connectivity

Sedona's City Council meeting on February 26, 2025, spotlighted ambitious transportation improvements aimed at easing traffic congestion during peak visitation periods. The proposed "Sedona in Motion" projects are set to enhance connectivity throughout the city, particularly at the busy Wye Intersection, a notorious bottleneck for motorists.

Key plans include the construction of a new Ranger Brewer roundabout and an extension of Ranger Road, allowing drivers to bypass the Wye entirely. This will enable smoother access to 89A South and West Sedona without navigating through the congested intersection. Additionally, a dedicated merging lane from Ranger Road onto 179 South is in the works, further streamlining traffic flow.

The council also discussed transforming the existing roundabout at 89A and Brewer Road into a right-turn-only intersection, which will simplify navigation for drivers. These changes are designed to provide multiple travel options, reducing delays and improving overall traffic management.

In tandem with road enhancements, the city plans to introduce new shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists, promoting alternative transportation methods.
