Plymouth Canton Schools honors Diane Straughn and Jocelyn Carson with Extra Miler awards

The P-CCS Board of Education meeting on February 25, 2025, highlighted the dedication of staff members at Erickson Elementary School, with two individuals receiving the prestigious Extra Miler Award. Superintendent Monica Merrick opened the meeting, welcoming a packed audience and introducing board members and staff.

The spotlight quickly turned to Diane Straughn, a substitute teacher recognized for her exceptional commitment to students and staff. Leanne Genandrea, a second-grade teacher, praised Straughn for her ability to connect with students and adapt to various classroom environments. Straughn expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing her pride in being part of the Plymouth Canton Community School District.

Jocelyn Carson, a media paraprofessional, was also honored for her unwavering support of students. Nominated by Mary Connor, a special education paraprofessional, Carson was commended for her role in creating a welcoming environment and providing essential resources to students in need. Carson acknowledged her colleagues, highlighting the strong sense of community at Erickson.

The meeting also included the approval of the consent agenda, which featured human resources transactions, including new hires and a retirement. The board unanimously approved the agenda, reflecting a collaborative spirit among members.

This recognition of Straughn and Carson underscores the district's commitment to fostering a supportive educational environment, celebrating those who go above and beyond for students and the community.
