Warren County is moving forward with a conditional use permit for a new campground that aims to integrate agritourism into the local landscape. During the Warren County Board of Supervisors meeting on November 6, 2024, officials discussed the potential impact of the campground on public health and safety, ultimately deciding to hold a public hearing on the matter.

Gary Whalen, the property owner, expressed his vision for the site, which includes raising livestock such as pigs and cows, as well as engaging in agricultural activities like hydroponics and beekeeping. He also mentioned plans to collaborate with Virginia Tech to explore agricultural education and possibly reintroduce the American Chestnut tree to the area.

Sean Newman, a consultant involved in the project, supported Whalen's vision and noted that the planning and zoning process had proceeded smoothly. He offered to answer any questions from the board regarding the campground proposal.
