Montgomery County honors Doctor Pat Huber and Tina King for career achievements

In a heartfelt gathering at the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting on December 16, 2024, community leaders and board members came together to honor three remarkable individuals for their significant contributions to education and community service in the region.

The evening began with a tribute to Dr. Pat Huber, who is set to retire as president of New River Community College at the end of the month. Although unable to attend, Dr. Huber's legacy was celebrated through a proclamation read aloud, highlighting her 35 years of service and her historic role as the first female president of the college. Under her leadership since 2017, the college has seen increased enrollment and expanded access to educational programs, including the ACE program, which supports community college education. The board expressed deep appreciation for her dedication and numerous accolades, including the 2024 Citizen of the Valley Award.

Next, the board recognized Dr. Martha Ann Stallings for her impactful work with the ACE program and her extensive career in education. Dr. Stallings, who retired from the Virginia Tech Training and Technical Assistance Center, was commended for her 25 years in Montgomery County Public Schools and her ongoing mentorship efforts. Her leadership in organizing diversity initiatives and fundraising for the ACE program has left a lasting mark on the community.

The final recognition of the evening was for Tina King, the executive director of the New River Valley Agency on Aging, who has dedicated 42 years to the organization. Tina's innovative programs and services have greatly enhanced the lives of many in the community, particularly through her work in transportation and nutrition services. As she prepares for retirement in January 2025, the board acknowledged her unparalleled contributions and the positive impact she has made on countless individuals.

As the meeting concluded, the board's unanimous votes of appreciation underscored the profound gratitude felt by the community for these leaders. Their retirements mark the end of significant chapters in local education and community service, but their legacies will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations.
