Danville prepares for inaugural 3 Sisters Marathon set for September 2025

The upcoming 3 Sisters Marathon is set to put Danville on the map as a premier destination for runners, with the inaugural event scheduled for September 6, 2025. This marathon, which includes a half marathon and a 5K fun run, has recently received certification as a Boston qualifier, attracting attention from runners across the United States and beyond.

The event will kick off with the 5K fun run on the evening of September 5, starting and finishing at Caesars Virginia's campus. The following morning, elite runners will take to the streets for the half marathon and marathon, expected to run from 7 AM to 1 PM. Organizers anticipate a cap of 2,000 participants for the first year, aiming to provide a high-quality experience that showcases the charm of Danville.

Steve Scott, one of the event's organizers, shared the inspiration behind the marathon's name, "3 Sisters," which pays homage to the iconic smoke stacks in the area. He emphasized the community's involvement in naming the event, highlighting the significance of local history and connection.
