This brings the total number of active National Board Certified Teachers in the district to 58, marking a 20.6% increase. The board expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing the importance of supporting educators in their professional development.
In alignment with Maryland's Blueprint for the Future, National Board Certified Teachers receive additional incentives, including financial stipends and career advancement opportunities. This year, SMCPS is offering various resources to assist approximately 145 candidates in the 2024-2025 cycle, including training sessions and a newly established support course that provides continuing professional development credits.
