CUSC launches Google cybersecurity clinic for students with University of Arizona partnership

The Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) Governing Board convened on February 26, 2025, for a study session and regular business meeting, focusing on several key updates and recognitions within the district.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Bogle Junior High School, CTA Freedom, and Hancock Elementary School for achieving the A+ School of Excellence designation from the Arizona Educational Foundation. This prestigious honor acknowledges exceptional performance in teaching, learning strategies, student success, leadership, and community engagement over a four-year period. The schools recognized this year fall under the 25 through 29 designation, allowing them a brief respite from the evaluation process.

Additionally, CUSD announced a groundbreaking initiative as the first school district in the nation to launch a Google cybersecurity clinic for students, in collaboration with the University of Arizona. This clinic, which is typically found at universities, marks a significant advancement for public school districts. Janet Harkoff, an educator from CUSD who introduced the cybersecurity program in February 2019, reported on the program's substantial growth. The clinic will provide students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and earn micro-credentials in cybersecurity.
