The Town Council of Woodside convened on October 22, 2024, to discuss several key issues, including housing regulations, waste management compliance, and a significant public hearing regarding the Canada Corners project.

One of the primary topics was the ongoing housing element process. Resident David Mittelman expressed concerns about the current zoning regulations, particularly regarding accessory dwelling units (ADUs). He argued that the town should consider removing the caps on the number and size of ADUs, allowing property owners to utilize their total floor area more effectively. Mittelman suggested that this change could help meet housing requirements without resorting to multifamily developments, which he believes are less desirable for the community.

The council also addressed the town's waste management practices. Town Manager Kevin Bryant reported that the California Department of Waste and Recycling, known as CalRecycle, would conduct an annual compliance review on October 30. This review will focus on the town's waste activities and programs aimed at reducing waste.

In addition, the council welcomed Captain Frank Del Porto as the new head of the sheriff's office, noting his familiarity with the community from his previous service in Woodside.

The meeting also included the appointment of Melody Westerville to the Woodside History Committee, following a recommendation from the appointments subcommittee. The council unanimously approved her appointment.

The most anticipated discussion was the public hearing on the Canada Corners project, which proposes the construction of outdoor dining parklets for two local restaurants, Bucks and the Village Bakery. The project aims to expand the parking lot and increase seating capacity for both establishments. The council outlined several entitlements required for the project, including design review and zoning changes.

As the meeting concluded, the council emphasized the importance of community input and respectful dialogue regarding the proposed developments, ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process.
