Nampa Planning Commission approves East Canyon master plan community proposal

A proposed master plan community in Nampa is gaining momentum after a recent Planning and Zoning meeting, where city council members expressed strong support for the project. The development, which encompasses 235.56 acres, aims to create a cohesive neighborhood that caters to families at various stages of life, from young couples to retirees.

Council members highlighted the importance of this type of community, emphasizing that it allows families to remain in the same area as they grow. "These kinds of communities are highly sought after by families that want to stay in the same area," one member noted, pointing out the benefits of having different housing options, such as RS4 and RS6 zones, to accommodate changing family needs.

The project is designed to include ample open space and parks, which council members believe will enhance the quality of life for residents. "It’s something that we need to have more of," another member stated, praising the forward-thinking approach of the development. The plan also includes a commercial aspect, which will be further explored as the project progresses.

Concerns about urban sprawl were acknowledged, but many council members agreed that this master plan approach is preferable to piecemeal development. "I would rather have these guys do it this way than somebody else come in and put a bunch of RS6 subdivisions," one member remarked, reinforcing the idea that this project aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan.

The council unanimously voted to recommend the adoption of the comprehensive map amendment, which will now move forward to the city council for final approval. With the backing of the council, this master plan community is poised to reshape the landscape of Nampa, providing a well-planned environment for future residents.
