Waspa Recreation District unveils extensive park upgrades and community facility improvements

The City of Wasco is making significant strides in enhancing community facilities and public safety, as highlighted during the Special City Council meeting on February 27, 2025. The council reaffirmed its commitment to key priorities, including infrastructure development, parks and recreation, and community engagement, which remain largely unchanged from the previous year.

Scott, a city representative, outlined the top priorities for the year, emphasizing the ongoing progress in these areas. Chris from the Wasco Recreation and Parks District (WRPD) provided an update on various projects aimed at improving local recreational spaces. These initiatives are part of a broader vision to create safe, accessible, and vibrant community areas that promote health and wellness.

Notable upgrades include the installation of new stadium lighting at Westside Park's softball field, enhancing safety for evening games. The park will also see improvements to its softball facilities, including new fencing and dugouts. Additionally, a new play structure funded by Measure X will be added to Westside Park.

At Barker Park, significant investments are being made to upgrade the community pool and baseball fields, ensuring a better experience for athletes and families. The park will also receive a new play structure, further enhancing its appeal.

Fifteenth Street Park, previously plagued by safety issues due to homeless encampments, has undergone a transformation. Collaborative efforts between WRPD, the city, and the sheriff's department have revitalized the park, making it a welcoming space with new amenities and artistic enhancements.

The community hall has also benefited from a small grant, allowing for essential updates, including new windows, doors, and improved facilities. These enhancements reflect WRPD's commitment to maintaining and upgrading community spaces to meet evolving needs.
