McAllen schools celebrate choir and band achievements at recognition ceremony

The McAllen Independent School District (ISD) held a special board meeting on February 27, 2025, primarily focused on recognizing outstanding students and staff from various schools within the district. The meeting commenced with acknowledgments of achievements in the arts, particularly in music.

The first recognition was for the McAllen High School Choir, where several students were honored for their participation in prestigious choirs. Notable mentions included Gabriela Barrientos, Camila Resendiz, Natalia Pumar, and Devani Simone, among others, who were recognized for their accomplishments in the all-district and all-region choirs. The head choir director, Beau Shireh, and assistant choir director, Jeanette Cervantes, were also acknowledged for their contributions, alongside McAllen High School Principal Stephanie Friedland.

Following this, the board moved to recognize the Brown Middle School Band. Students such as Daniel Fuentes, who earned third chair in the All City Band for French Horn, and Francisco Luna, who played alto saxophone, were highlighted for their musical talents. The head band director, Elizabeth Gomez, and Brown Middle School Principal Manuel Garcia were present to support the students.

The meeting continued with further recognitions for the McAllen Memorial High School choir, showcasing the district's commitment to celebrating the achievements of its students in the performing arts.
