Morris and Travis Middle Schools celebrate All City Band and Orchestra achievements

The McAllen Independent School District (MISD) held a special board meeting on February 27, 2025, to recognize outstanding achievements among students in the arts, particularly in music. The meeting highlighted the accomplishments of various students from Morris Middle School and Travis Middle School who participated in the All City Band and All Region Orchestra.

Among the honorees from Morris Middle School were Sofia Garza, Nivet Netro, and Jocelyn Soto, all recognized for their performances as clarinet players in the All City Band. Other notable mentions included Christian Gomez, who earned first chair on the alto saxophone, and Olivia Garza, who played the bassoon and secured third chair in the region band. The recognition extended to several percussionists, including Max Alvarez, who achieved first chair status.

The meeting also acknowledged the contributions of the band directors, Miss Dorena Kingston from Morris Middle School and Miss Denise Pena from Travis Middle School, along with Antonio Olivares, the head band director at Travis. The achievements of these students and their instructors underscore the commitment to fostering musical talent within the district.

As the meeting concluded, the board expressed pride in the students' accomplishments and the importance of supporting arts education in schools. This recognition serves as a reminder of the value placed on student achievements in the McAllen community.
