The County of Santa Clara's Children, Seniors, and Families Committee convened on February 27, 2025, to discuss the significant progress and impact of the Vietnamese American Service Center (VASC) since its inception. The meeting highlighted the center's first annual report, showcasing its vital role in providing culturally sensitive services to the Vietnamese American community and beyond.
Hani Tran, senior manager of VASC, opened the session by expressing pride in the collaborative efforts that have enabled the center to meet the community's needs effectively. The report revealed that VASC has successfully integrated various services, including health care, behavioral health, and senior nutrition, into a single location, enhancing accessibility for clients.

Subscribe for Free Margaret Oberlo, director of the adult and older adult system of care, reported that VASC's behavioral health services have reached over 3,600 individuals in the past fiscal year, with a notable number of first-time clients. Franco Germanario, health center manager, emphasized the center's success in providing comprehensive medical and dental services, noting a significant increase in patient compliance and health outcomes compared to other clinics.
The senior nutrition program, led by Vandana Puri, has also seen remarkable growth, serving over 500 meals daily and offering unique Vietnamese meal options. This program stands out as the only one in the county providing home-delivered ethnic meals to homebound seniors.
Committee members praised the center's achievements and discussed future goals, including expanding outreach efforts to better serve the growing Vietnamese population in South County. They emphasized the importance of replicating VASC's integrated service model in other high-need communities across the county.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue monitoring the center's impact and exploring opportunities for further outreach and service expansion. The VASC's success serves as a model for community-based, culturally competent service delivery, demonstrating the power of collaboration in addressing the needs of diverse populations.
