Hoffman Estates launches major developments including data centers and new housing projects

The Village of Hoffman Estates held a significant meeting on March 1, 2025, focusing on the progress of various economic development projects and community enhancements. The discussions highlighted the ongoing transformation of the area, particularly in the realms of data centers, residential housing, and public safety training.

One of the most notable developments is the ongoing construction of a large data center at the former Cirrus headquarters site. Compass Data Centers initiated this project in June 2024, with demolition activities currently underway. The construction of the data center buildings is expected to commence later this year. In a collaborative effort, Compass has allowed local first responders to utilize the site for essential training exercises, enhancing public safety capabilities in the community.

Additionally, Microsoft’s data center on Lakewood Boulevard is nearing completion of its first phase, with the second phase set to begin shortly. Power supply reliability for these data centers is being bolstered by ComEd's near-completion of a substation expansion, ensuring adequate energy resources.

The meeting also addressed residential development, with Pulte Homes planning a 69-unit townhome subdivision on the former CDK property adjacent to Village Hall. Furthermore, construction is anticipated to start this year on luxury apartments at the Bell Works property, which is also seeing increased interest from developers for additional multi-family projects.

In terms of business growth, several new companies have opened in the area, including Jumpfly and Viper, while Bell Works Chicagoland was recognized as the 2024 Business of the Year. The site is evolving into a vibrant business hub, with new tenants signing leases and plans for further renovations underway.

The Village is also advancing its own infrastructure projects, including the construction of new fire stations and improvements to the Village Green to enhance community events. These developments reflect a commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents in Hoffman Estates.
