Hopeville City Council certifies election results and swears in new members

The Holtville City Council convened on December 10, 2024, to certify the results of the recent general municipal election held on November 5, 2024. The meeting focused on adopting Resolution 24-30, which officially recognizes the election outcomes and the new council members set to take office.

City Clerk Rios reported that the election coincided with the county's presidential election, where three four-year council terms were contested. Six candidates filed to run: incumbents Mike Pacheco and Marie Anderson, along with challengers Teresa Castillo Munger, Stacy Britzke, Vanessa Ramirez, and Brian Vega. The election results confirmed that Pacheco, Anderson, and Ramirez would be the new council members.

During the meeting, the council discussed the vacant city treasurer position, which did not receive any applications for the upcoming term. The council acknowledged the need to advertise the position and accept applications for appointment, with the goal of filling the role by January 1, 2025.

After a brief public comment period, the council unanimously voted to adopt the resolution certifying the election results. Following the vote, the newly elected council members were sworn in, marking a significant transition for the city leadership.
