Coach launches Ogden Jets to save junior college football in Utah

Dave Arslanian, founder of USA Collegiate, shared his inspiring journey at a recent government meeting in Utah, highlighting the importance of preserving junior college football. Arslanian's deep-rooted connection to the sport began with his father, who played and later coached at Dixie College. This legacy fueled Arslanian's passion for football, leading him to a successful coaching career at several prominent colleges in Utah.

Five years ago, recognizing a decline in junior college football programs, Arslanian and a colleague launched the Ogden Jets, aiming to revitalize the sport in the region. At the time, only one junior college in Utah, Snow College, was still fielding a football team, while Arizona had seen a complete drop in its junior college football programs. This prompted Arslanian to take action, resulting in the establishment of the Ogden Jets and other teams, including the Saint George Eagles and the Goodyear Wranglers in Arizona.

The initiative, which began as a community service project, has now evolved into a sustainable model ready for private ownership. Arslanian emphasized the need for continued support to ensure these teams thrive and contribute to the local community. His story serves as a testament to the impact of grassroots efforts in preserving sports that hold significant cultural value. As the Ogden Jets and their counterparts continue to grow, they promise to keep the spirit of junior college football alive for future generations.
