Plymouth is gearing up for a vibrant Thanksgiving celebration, with the Plymouth 400 legacy organization leading efforts to boost local tourism through a unique mailing initiative. During a recent meeting, Mr. McKay highlighted the importance of this program, which aims to revive the tourism sector that suffered greatly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Plymouth 400 committee, established to commemorate the 1620 landing of the Pilgrims, has been working diligently to promote the town as a historical tourism destination. Mr. McKay noted that despite the challenges faced in recent years, there is a renewed focus on attracting visitors to America's hometown.
This year, the committee has partnered with local schools to create special artwork for a unique postal cancellation program. Students designed images that will be featured on mailings, promoting Plymouth as the site of the first Thanksgiving. The initiative has already garnered significant interest, with approximately 6,000 greeting cards distributed to encourage participation. The goal is to process around 21,000 pieces of mail through this program, which will not only highlight Plymouth's historical significance but also engage residents and visitors alike.
The program has attracted participants from 25 states and three foreign countries, showcasing Plymouth's appeal beyond local borders. As the holiday season approaches, the Plymouth 400 legacy organization is optimistic about the potential for increased tourism and community engagement, reinforcing the town's historical legacy while fostering economic recovery.
