University of Guam secures timely federal grants for major construction projects

The University of Guam (UOG) is set to enhance its workforce and facilities following key decisions made during the BOR Q1 Full Board Regular Meeting on February 20, 2025. The board approved modifications to the military salary schedule for chief roles, addressing challenges in filling these positions while also achieving significant cost savings for the university.

The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize UOG's infrastructure, including transitioning to cloud-based systems. These upgrades are part of a broader initiative to improve the university's operational efficiency and overall status. The Physical Affairs Committee, alongside the Academic and Tenure Committee, expressed satisfaction with the proposed salary adjustments, which are expected to attract qualified candidates to critical roles.

In addition to salary discussions, the board reviewed the status of federal funding for construction projects. Notably, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant of approximately $12 million for the Wareham School of Health building remains unaffected, with timely reimbursements continuing. Similarly, a $7.1 million Treasury grant for the Student Success Center and a $21.7 million loan for the School of Engineering and Student Center are also on track, ensuring that these vital projects proceed without financial disruption.
