Sunnyvale Council unveils Lakewood Branch Library design and construction updates

Sunnyvale's new Lakewood Branch Library is set to become a vibrant community hub, with construction officially underway following a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2023. The project, a collaboration between the City of Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale School District, and Fremont Union High School District, has evolved through years of planning and community engagement, culminating in a design that emphasizes both traditional library services and modern collaborative spaces.

The 20,000 square foot facility will feature a balanced layout, dedicating half of its public space to traditional library collections and the other half to meeting rooms and community areas. This design aims to foster collaboration and learning, making it a valuable resource for families, students, and community members.

Key features of the library include a marketplace for popular items, a dedicated teen room, and a large children's area with an enclosed outdoor patio. The library will also house a tech lab and study rooms, enhancing its role as a center for education and creativity.

In addition to standard library services, the facility will offer after-hours access for community events and programs, expanding its usability beyond traditional hours. A specialized holds room will allow patrons to pick up reserved items even when the library is closed, showcasing a commitment to accessibility and convenience.
