Council approves $80K purchase of FARO technology for accident reconstruction

La Plata's Town Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing public safety and operational efficiency by approving an $80,000 investment in advanced accident reconstruction technology. During the regular meeting on March 3, 2025, council members unanimously supported the acquisition of a FARO 3D laser scanner, which will aid law enforcement in accurately reconstructing traffic incidents and improving the credibility of their findings in civil litigation.

The decision comes in response to a notable increase in high-speed violations in the area, with local law enforcement reporting a quadrupling of citations for speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour over the past five years. This uptick underscores the growing need for effective tools to manage and analyze traffic incidents, particularly as the town continues to grow.
