Ocala Fire Rescue reports increased response calls and recruits new firefighters

In the heart of Ocala, city officials gathered under the bright lights of the council chamber, ready to address pressing community matters. The meeting on March 4, 2025, showcased the dedication of local departments to enhance public safety and community engagement.

The Ocala Police Department reported significant progress in their operations, attributing recent successes to an increase in personnel. With more officers on the streets, the department has ramped up proactive patrols and traffic stops, aiming to foster a safer environment for residents. Transitioning to the Ocala Fire Rescue Department, Fire Chief Clint Welton provided an update on their recent activities. The department responded to a total of 994 calls in a two-week period, marking an increase of 16 calls from the previous weeks. Among these, Rescue 3 led with 176 rescue calls, while Engine 1 responded to 10 motor vehicle accidents. The department also noted a slight uptick in structure fires, with three reported incidents.

In a bid to strengthen their team, the fire department has been actively participating in recruitment efforts. Recently, personnel attended the Orlando Fire Conference to enhance their skills in high-pressure situations. Additionally, they engaged with the community at Westport High School's career fair and welcomed four new firefighters to their ranks, further bolstering their capacity to serve.
