Newcastle City Council approves 9.6-acre commercial development project

A significant development project is underway in Newcastle, Oklahoma, as the city moves forward with plans for a new commercial site at 250 South Main Street. Spanning approximately 9.6 acres, this prime location sits at the intersection of US Highway 62 and East Cross Lane, surrounded by a mix of residential and commercial properties.

The Planning Commission highlighted the strategic importance of this site during their recent meeting, emphasizing its potential to boost the local economy through increased sales tax revenue. The area is already home to various businesses, including law offices, healthcare facilities, and residential developments, making it an ideal spot for further commercial growth.

The city purchased the property in November 2023, with the goal of enhancing Newcastle's economic landscape. To facilitate this, the city has partnered with FSB, an engineering design firm, to develop a Preliminary Engineering Design (PED) and a preliminary plat for the site. The Newcastle 2040 comprehensive plan designates this land for general commercial use, aligning with the city’s vision for future growth.
