Library enhances technology with $60K meeting room upgrades at Fairmount

Davenport City Library Board of Trustees highlighted significant advancements in technology during their recent meeting on February 18, 2025. A major focus was the completion of a $60,000 upgrade at the Fairmount branch, which now boasts teleconferencing capabilities in all three meeting rooms. This upgrade responds to the growing demand for remote communication tools, a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

IT Supervisor Jason detailed the library's efforts to modernize its infrastructure, including a transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11, which is set to enhance staff productivity. He emphasized the importance of thorough testing to ensure compatibility with existing systems before rolling out new software. The library has also migrated significant data to cloud services, ensuring robust backup systems are in place across multiple locations.

The meeting underscored the library's commitment to maintaining high service standards, with a goal of 99.99% uptime for public services. Jason noted that despite operating with a small IT team, they successfully monitor over 13,000 network items, ensuring quick responses to any issues that arise.
