Grosse Ile Township approves bridge pass purchase to ease traffic flow

In a pivotal meeting on February 24, 2025, the Grosse Ile Township Board of Trustees addressed the urgent need for bridge passes ahead of the anticipated closure of the free bridge. With current supplies running low, officials emphasized the importance of purchasing additional passes to ensure smooth traffic flow for residents.

The township plans to buy between 1,000 to 1,500 passes at a cost of $26.35 each, with the Grosse Ile Bridge Company set to purchase any distributed passes before the March 31 deadline. This proactive measure aims to alleviate congestion and enhance accessibility for island residents who rely on the bridge for daily commutes.

Trustee discussions highlighted the pressing demand for passes, with reports indicating that existing supplies have already been depleted. "This is imperative to make a smooth transition," one trustee noted, stressing that having passes on hand will facilitate quicker access for drivers, ultimately benefiting the community.

In addition to the bridge pass initiative, the meeting also touched on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee's plans to enhance local trail systems and signage, as well as updates on the Bellevue connector project, which is expected to commence construction this summer.
