School district honors partners for improving student attendance through Everyday Matters campaign

The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) recently celebrated the success of its Everyday Matters attendance campaign, which aims to improve student attendance and combat chronic absenteeism. During the regular board meeting on March 4, 2025, Dr. Nalikantu highlighted the campaign's positive impact on student engagement and academic success.

The Everyday Matters initiative emphasizes the importance of regular school attendance, linking it directly to students' academic achievements and future opportunities. Dr. Nalikantu noted that while the district is not yet ready to release specific attendance data, early indicators suggest an increase in attendance rates, thanks to the dedicated efforts of principals, teachers, and staff across the district.

A key aspect of the campaign is its collaboration with local community partners, referred to as "attendance heroes." These organizations have contributed approximately $20,000 in funding and vouchers to incentivize student attendance. Their support has been instrumental in addressing barriers that prevent students from attending school regularly.

The recognition of these community partners underscores the district's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for students and their families. By engaging parents and local organizations, BISD aims to ensure that all students can fully benefit from their education.
