Traffic safety and community support took center stage at the Loomis Town Council meeting on December 10, 2024, as local leaders discussed ongoing efforts to improve student safety during school drop-off and pick-up times.
The meeting highlighted the collaboration between law enforcement and schools to address traffic-related issues at Delaware Elementary. A lieutenant emphasized the importance of educating parents about traffic laws and designated pick-up and drop-off zones to ensure the safety of students. "It's definitely a partnership with the town and the schools," he noted, acknowledging recent improvements made by the schools in their traffic management plans.
In addition to traffic safety, the meeting also showcased community generosity. An anonymous donor has provided American Express gift cards to assist families in need, particularly those affected by residential fires or other crises. The lieutenant encouraged attendees to refer anyone who might benefit from this support, stating, "We like to give back to the community."
The meeting concluded with excitement for the upcoming "Shop with a Cop" event, where local law enforcement will accompany children in need for a shopping spree at Target. With 15 to 16 kids participating this year, the program aims to provide clothing and essentials, reinforcing the community's commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members.
These discussions reflect Loomis's dedication to enhancing safety and fostering a spirit of giving, ensuring that both students and families receive the support they need.
