Halcyon Eco opens US headquarters in Mentor for innovative oil filtration technology

The Mentor City Council meeting on March 4, 2025, highlighted the arrival of Halcyon Eco Inc., a subsidiary of the Roscommon-based Halcyon Group, which is establishing its U.S. headquarters in Mentor. The company plans to introduce an innovative cooking oil filtration device aimed at the hospitality industry, which promises to significantly reduce costs and carbon emissions.

Halcyon Eco specializes in a fryer management system that cleans fryers, filters oil, and facilitates the safe transport of expired oil. This technology can help businesses cut oil costs by up to 60%, offering a sustainable solution for waste management. Peter Kerwin, the founder of Halcyon Eco, has been actively engaging with the Mentor community since his first visit in August 2024, where he met potential customers in the restaurant and catering sectors.

During his subsequent visits, Kerwin secured numerous sales contracts for the filtration device and is collaborating with Mentor-based Nova Manufacturing to produce the machines locally. The company plans to set up its administrative offices at the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce and anticipates creating two jobs in 2025, with a goal of expanding to eight jobs by 2027. The projected payroll for 2025 is $210,000, contributing to an estimated $887,000 in new payroll over the three-year grant term.

Halcyon Eco is eligible for a $5,000 initial grant under the Mentor Economic Development Grant Program, which aims to support local economic growth. Kerwin expressed his appreciation for the community's enthusiasm for democracy and the welcoming environment that influenced their decision to establish operations in Mentor.

This development marks a significant step for Mentor as it continues to attract innovative businesses and create job opportunities for its residents.
