Summit County Council celebrated the remarkable career of Jean Paskett during their recent meeting on April 19, 2023, recognizing her 29 years of dedicated public service to the community. The council unanimously passed a proclamation honoring Paskett, who has been a pivotal figure in public health, particularly in the Colville and North Summit areas.
Paskett's extensive career includes significant contributions during critical public health events, such as her role as vaccine coordinator during the H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics, as well as her involvement in the 2002 Olympic Games. Her efforts have established Summit County as a leader in COVID-19 response, showcasing her resilience and commitment to public health even during the most challenging times.
Throughout her tenure, Paskett has facilitated over 53,000 public health encounters, averaging about eight interactions daily. Her work has fostered trust within the community, allowing her to vaccinate multiple generations of families. She has also implemented a successful homebound vaccination program, ensuring that those unable to visit health facilities receive necessary care.
In recognition of her outstanding service, Paskett will receive the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Silver Syringe Award, an honor reflecting her impact and dedication to public health. As she prepares to transition from her nursing career to spend more time with family and pursue personal interests, the council and community express deep gratitude for her contributions and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
