Middletown Township is set to enhance its fire services significantly after the Board of Supervisors approved a motion to purchase three new firefighting vehicles during their meeting on October 16, 2023. This decision follows a comprehensive fire services study conducted by Dynamics in 2021, which evaluated the township's fire apparatus and recommended a replacement plan for aging vehicles.
The approved purchase, totaling approximately $3.77 million, will replace four outdated fire apparatus and is aimed at ensuring reliable fire protection for residents and businesses for at least the next 15 years. Each of the three new Pierce fire engines will be assigned to the Langhorne Middleton Fire Company, the William Penn Fire Company, and the Middletown Township Fire and Emergency Services career staff.
The initiative reflects a collaborative effort among the four volunteer fire companies and township officials, emphasizing the importance of community support for local fire services. Board members expressed gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the volunteer firefighters, highlighting the lengthy process that led to this agreement. The establishment of a new fire apparatus fund will facilitate the purchase, relieving some financial burdens from the volunteer companies.
This milestone not only strengthens the township's emergency response capabilities but also underscores the commitment to supporting local volunteer fire services, ensuring they remain equipped to serve the community effectively. The board's decision marks a significant step forward in enhancing public safety in Middletown Township.
