Michigan appropriates $150K for Military Family Relief Fund grants to reservist families

However, not all programs are thriving. The STARBASE initiative, which promotes STEM education for fifth graders, is currently on hold due to federal funding issues. This closure affects three locations in Michigan, serving around 1,500 students, and underscores the challenges faced by educational programs reliant on federal support.

Additionally, the Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MINGSTAP) has been expanded to include spouses and dependents of service members, reflecting a commitment to supporting military families in their educational pursuits. With a current fund balance of approximately $8.7 million, the program is poised to continue providing valuable assistance.

The meeting concluded with a focus on the Michigan Veterans Affairs Administration (MVAA), which plays a critical role in supporting veterans through grants and administrative services.
