During the recent meeting of the Eastern Summit County Planning Commission, significant discussions centered around the ongoing development phases in the area, particularly focusing on housing, water resources, and traffic management.
The commission highlighted that Phase 2 of the development plan is set to add nearly 100 new homes, bringing the total to 161 homes once completed. This phase will introduce a variety of housing types, including condos and townhomes, which aim to meet diverse community needs. The increase in housing density is expected to enhance the availability of affordable living options in the region.
Water resource management was another critical topic. The commission noted the necessity for an additional 37 to 57 acre-feet of water to adequately service the new homes. This brings the cumulative water requirement to approximately 93 acre-feet, ensuring that the growing population has sufficient access to this vital resource.
Traffic concerns were also addressed, with a traffic study recommending the construction of left turn lanes at key entrance points, particularly at Hoytsville Road. As the number of units approaches 170, these improvements are deemed essential to manage the anticipated increase in traffic flow and enhance safety for residents.
Lastly, the planning for a connected trail system was discussed, which aims to promote outdoor activities and improve community connectivity. The next phase of development is projected to include an additional 66 homes, further contributing to the area's growth.
These discussions reflect the commission's commitment to balancing development with community needs, ensuring that infrastructure and resources keep pace with the increasing population in Eastern Summit County. As these plans move forward, residents can expect continued updates on how these developments will shape their community.
