City plans playground upgrades at Rustic Timbers and North Shore Parks

Excitement is building in Flower Mound as the Parks Board announces significant upgrades to local playgrounds and parks. The much-anticipated replacement of the Rustic Timbers Park playground is set to kick off with the removal of existing equipment on March 22, followed by the installation of new equipment expected to be completed by mid to late April. The new playground promises to enhance the community's recreational offerings, with renderings showcasing a modern design.

In addition to the playground updates, improvements at Spring Lake Park are underway. Recent work includes concrete repairs and the installation of new benches, picnic tables, and trash cans, with a new gazebo expected to arrive in early April. The project aims to revitalize the park's amenities, with completion anticipated by early May.

The Parks Board is also making strides on the Leonard and Helen John's master plan, with a focus on integrating tennis courts without impacting the floodplain. A public review session is scheduled for next month, where community feedback will be sought on the latest designs.

Meanwhile, the North Shore Park playground replacement is generating community interest. Residents have expressed a preference for a jungle theme over a pirate ship concept, requesting a more natural color palette and additional shade. Notably, there is a strong push for artificial turf surfacing, which may require additional funding and planning.
