Scotts Valley declares Alfred Hitchcock Week celebrating local history and film legacy

Scotts Valley is set to celebrate its cinematic heritage as the city council officially declared the week of March 14-16, 2025, as Alfred Hitchcock Week. This proclamation honors the legendary filmmaker and his significant ties to the area, where he and his wife, Alma Reville, spent 30 years at their estate, Heart of the Mountain.

Mayor Derek Timm highlighted Hitchcock's influence on the film industry and his fondness for Scotts Valley, noting that the couple welcomed numerous Hollywood stars to their retreat. The mayor reminisced about Hitchcock's visits to local restaurants, including the Old Danish Inn and Gilda's on the Wharf, and his regular trips to the United Cigar in Santa Cruz for cigars and Hollywood newspapers.

Victor Alejandro, chair of the Hitchcock Festival, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, emphasizing the importance of remembering the area's rich history and its connection to notable figures like Hitchcock. He shared a personal anecdote about Hitchcock's love for donuts, further illustrating the filmmaker's local ties.
