District 21 celebrates educators and announces new principal for Tarkington Elementary

District 21 Superintendent Dr. Michael Connolly highlighted key initiatives and achievements during his March message, emphasizing safety and community recognition as top priorities.

As the school year enters its final stretch, Connolly announced the upcoming Spring Safety Week, aimed at reinforcing safety procedures for students and staff. "The safety of our students and staff remain a top priority in District 21," he stated, thanking local first responders for their partnership in maintaining secure learning environments.

In a celebration of excellence, several educators from District 21 received accolades from the Illinois State Board of Education through the Those Who Excel Award Program. Connolly praised these individuals for their dedication and impact on student success, saying, "Your hard work and passion do not go unnoticed."

The message also celebrated the return of the District 21 Choral Festival, which brought together all schools for the first time in a decade, showcasing the talent of students and staff.

In leadership news, Connolly announced Jillian Dorn as the new principal of Tarkington Elementary School, succeeding Dr. Joe Arduino, who is retiring after 18 years. Connolly expressed confidence in Dorn's ability to support the school community.
