Residents of Middletown Township raised concerns about waste management services during the recent Board of Supervisors meeting on July 17, 2023. Local resident Andrew Kelly, who lives on Queen Lily Road, reported ongoing issues with trash and recycling collection, particularly since the July 4 holiday. He noted that yard waste has not been picked up, and trash collection has been inconsistent, sometimes delayed by several days. The board assured Kelly that they would investigate the matter with Waste Management to address these complaints.
In addition to waste management issues, the board approved several key agenda items that will impact the community. A significant decision was made to request a multimodal transportation grant for the Langhorne Yardley Road and Maple Point Drive pedestrian crossing project. This project aims to improve safety for pedestrians accessing the community park and Maple Point Middle School, a concern that has been voiced by residents for some time.
The board also discussed a $90,000 change order for the ongoing Public Works Building project, which is necessary to enhance the facility's functionality. This includes expanding the concrete pad and adding an additional fueling dispenser, ensuring the project meets long-term needs.
Another important topic was the consideration of a lot consolidation plan for 825 Elm Avenue, which will allow for the development of a single-family home on previously separate parcels. The plan received approval from the planning commission and is now set to move forward.
Lastly, the board authorized the advertisement of an ordinance to regulate commercial vehicle parking in residential areas. This ordinance aims to address complaints from residents about trucks and commercial vehicles parked on streets, with fines for violations set to increase. The board emphasized that this measure is a last resort, as vehicle owners will be notified before fines are issued.
These discussions and decisions reflect the board's commitment to addressing community concerns and improving local infrastructure, ensuring that Middletown Township continues to be a safe and well-managed environment for its residents.
