The City of Crockett is set to revive its long-awaited fireworks show this July, marking the first display in four years. City staff reported an increased demand from residents for the event, prompting discussions about its feasibility. After reaching out to Power Shows, the company that previously organized the displays, the city secured a date for a Saturday evening before July 4th.
The fireworks show will feature larger, more impressive 8-inch mortar shells, a significant upgrade from the 5-inch shells used in past events. This change aims to create a memorable experience for attendees. Funding for the show has been a primary concern, but local businesses have stepped up, committing $28,000 to support the event. This funding will cover the costs of the fireworks and additional advertising efforts, including $3,000 worth of free advertising from local radio stations and other sponsors.
City officials emphasized the importance of community awareness regarding the fireworks, particularly for residents with pets or those who may be sensitive to loud noises. Plans are in place for extensive advertising to ensure that the community is informed about the event and any potential impacts.
In addition to the fireworks discussion, the council addressed an agreement with a local RC airplane group that uses city property for their activities. The city is working to ensure that the runway used by the group is protected during the fireworks display.
As the city prepares for this exciting event, officials are committed to making it a safe and enjoyable experience for all residents, while also fostering community spirit through local sponsorship and participation.
