Middletown Township's Board of Supervisors took a significant step towards enhancing community safety and recreation during their December 11, 2023 meeting. The board unanimously approved a motion to advertise and bid for the replacement of the wooden deck on the south side of the barn building at Middletown Community Park.
Mr. Cooper from the Parks and Recreation Department presented the proposal, emphasizing the urgency of the project. He noted that the deck, originally constructed in 2002, has deteriorated over the years, with issues such as rotting hangers and outdated handrails that no longer meet current building codes. The replacement is crucial not only for compliance but also for the safety of the approximately 300 children who utilize the space for activities and meals.
The board allocated a budget of $125,000 for the project, aiming to complete the work between mid-March and mid-May to avoid disruption during the summer recreation program. Mr. Cooper explained that bidding during the winter months could yield more competitive offers from contractors, ensuring the township receives the best value for the project.
This decision marks a proactive approach by the township to maintain and improve its facilities, ensuring they remain safe and enjoyable for community members. The board's commitment to timely action reflects a dedication to enhancing local recreational spaces, with the expectation that the new deck will serve the community for many years to come.
