The Caldwell County Board of Education convened on March 7, 2025, to discuss various initiatives aimed at fostering citizenship and recognizing exemplary student achievements. The meeting highlighted the board's commitment to character education, encouraging students to embody good citizenship through specific character traits.
The board celebrated students who demonstrated outstanding kindness during February. Jaquem Moore, a first grader from Whitnall Elementary School, was recognized for his cheerful demeanor and supportive interactions with classmates and teachers. His principal, Chad Smith, praised Jaquem for his ability to uplift those around him.

Subscribe for Free Abby Ferguson, a seventh grader at William Lenoir Middle School, was also honored for her kindness. Principal Dr. Jason Adick noted Abby's welcoming nature towards new students and her supportive role on the volleyball team, emphasizing her positive influence on classmates facing challenges.
Jaylen Parker, a twelfth grader at South Kahua High School, received recognition for her consistent acts of kindness. Principal Braylee Spiegel highlighted Jaylen's daily efforts to create a supportive classroom environment and her willingness to assist classmates academically and emotionally.
In addition to student recognitions, Caldwell Early College High School student Avania was awarded the prestigious Goodnight Scholar honor from North Carolina State University, aimed at nurturing future leaders in STEM fields. Principal Meredith Griffin accompanied Avania during the acknowledgment.
The board also recognized Dr. Jessica Anthony, who was named Principal of the Year for the Northwest Region by the North Carolina Department of Instruction. Dr. Anthony is a finalist for the Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year award, reflecting her leadership in education.
Lastly, the Caldwell County Board of Education received several awards from the North Carolina School Boards Association. Chairman Darrell Pinnell was honored with the Scholar Circle Award, while Vice Chairman Chris Becker received the Certificate of Advanced Achievement. Board members Anne Edwards and Teresa Branch were awarded the Award of Excellence, and Joe Sims received the Award of Distinction. BJ Fore was recognized with a Certificate of Merit.
The meeting underscored the board's dedication to fostering a positive educational environment and recognizing the achievements of both students and staff within the Caldwell County Schools.
