Dougherty County celebrated the remarkable lives of two centenarians during the Commission meeting on December 16, 2024. The Board of Commissioners honored Mother Charlotte Davis and Mother Loni Fields, who recently celebrated their 101st and 100th birthdays, respectively. This recognition highlights their significant contributions to the community and their enduring legacies of faith and resilience.

Mother Charlotte Davis, born on November 16, 1923, in Elmodell, Georgia, has been a pillar of strength throughout her life. She co-founded a successful restaurant in Detroit and was actively involved in community initiatives in Newark, New Jersey, before returning to Albany, Georgia. Her daughter shared stories of her mother's unwavering spirit and dedication to service, emphasizing her role as a leader in the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.

Mother Loni Fields, born in September 1924 in Arlington, Georgia, has nurtured a large family and served her community through her work at Albany State College. Her legacy is marked by her deep faith and the love she has shown to her family and church.

The proclamation read during the meeting celebrated not only their longevity but also the inspiration they provide to the citizens of Dougherty County. The Board encouraged all residents to join in recognizing these remarkable women and their contributions to the community.

In addition to the centenarian celebrations, the meeting included a commendation for Glenn Tyler Harris, a board member of the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, acknowledging his dedicated service since 2016.
