High Valley Water Company is set to undergo significant infrastructure upgrades following a recent approval from the Summit County Council. The council discussed a franchise agreement that will allow the nonprofit water provider, which serves 264 homes in Highland Estates, to enhance its water delivery systems.
The company, incorporated in 1981, has secured a $4.1 million grant, half of which is in grant money, to fund a construction project estimated at around $3 million. This project will replace the majority of the existing water infrastructure, including mains and laterals, as part of a comprehensive master plan.
Karen Sawyer, the manager of High Valley Water Company, participated in the meeting via Zoom, confirming that the company primarily sources its water from Mountain Regional Water and has a connection point on Highland Drive. The upgrades are crucial as the company previously relied on its own wells, which proved insufficient for the growing number of homes in the area.
During the meeting, council members inquired about the number of water companies operating in Snyderville, with estimates suggesting around 25 companies have been consolidated into a few major providers, including Mountain Regional and Summit Water. This consolidation reflects a trend of smaller companies merging to ensure reliable water resources for residents.
The council's approval of the franchise agreement marks a pivotal step for High Valley Water Company, promising improved water service for the community and addressing the challenges posed by increased demand.
