During the meeting, members of SafeRx, a local coalition dedicated to preventing overdoses, were present to discuss the importance of this day. The proclamation acknowledges the alarming statistic that 279 people fatally overdosed in Lake County in February 2022, emphasizing that all overdose deaths are preventable. It also addresses the stigma surrounding addiction, framing it as a chronic disease that requires compassion and support rather than judgment.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 19, at Austin Park from 10 AM to 2 PM, offering a platform for education and community engagement around overdose prevention.
