San Diego Community Power introduces Solar Advantage program for local renewable energy

San Diego Community Power is making strides towards a greener future with its Solar Advantage Program, aimed at enhancing access to renewable energy for local communities. During a recent webinar held on March 10, 2025, key leaders from the organization outlined the program's objectives and the upcoming Request for Offer (RFO) process for potential bidders.

Tessa Tobar, the program lead, emphasized the importance of the Solar Advantage Program, which is designed to provide cleaner energy options to residents across San Diego County. The initiative is part of a broader effort by San Diego Community Power, a community choice aggregator formed in 2019, to transition the region towards 100% renewable energy by 2035.

The webinar featured insights from Morgan Adam, senior manager of local development, who detailed the solicitation process for bidders interested in contributing to the program. This marks a significant step in expanding the community solar initiative, which has been operational since 2022 and aims to serve disadvantaged communities.

San Diego Community Power, now the second-largest community choice aggregator in California, serves nearly one million customers and operates differently from traditional utilities. By purchasing energy directly from renewable providers, the organization fosters competition and local control, allowing for more sustainable energy solutions at competitive rates.

The meeting also highlighted the conclusion of a three-year evaluation cycle for green tariff programs, which will inform future developments in community solar initiatives. As San Diego Community Power continues to grow, the Solar Advantage Program stands as a pivotal element in its mission to deliver renewable energy and reinvest in community projects.
