During the recent Snyderville Basin Planning Commission meeting on September 12, 2023, a significant project aimed at upgrading the transmission lines for Rocky Mountain Power was discussed. This project, spanning 4.5 miles, is part of a broader initiative to enhance fire safety and improve power delivery in the region.
The proposed upgrade involves replacing existing wooden power poles with more durable metal poles, which will be painted in a color referred to as "Summit County Brown" or "Summit County Rust." This change is expected to not only bolster the infrastructure but also address geographical challenges, including steep slopes and multiple line requirements.
The project builds on two previous upgrades in the area, which included enhancements from Eastern Summit County to the Snyderville Basin and another from Bonanza to Bear Hollow, ultimately reaching Kimball Junction. The current extension will connect the outlets area to Summit Park and further down to Mountain Dell.
This upgrade is a one-for-one swap of power poles, ensuring that the existing infrastructure is modernized without increasing the number of poles in the area. The Planning Commission's discussions highlighted the importance of this project in enhancing the reliability of power services while also considering the environmental and aesthetic aspects of the new installations.
As the community continues to grow, these improvements are crucial for maintaining safe and efficient power delivery, ultimately benefiting residents and businesses alike. The Planning Commission will continue to monitor the project's progress and its impact on the local community.
