Upper Dublin school district celebrates student achievements and upcoming events

The Upper Dublin School District (UDSD) Legislative Meeting held on March 12, 2025, highlighted a series of community and educational initiatives aimed at supporting students and families. Key discussions included various events organized by different groups within the district, showcasing a commitment to inclusivity and educational enrichment.

The LGBTQIA+ group hosted two open house events at Starbucks to provide support for families of LGBTQIA+ students. Meanwhile, the Special Education Advisory Council (SPEAK) is set to hold a program aimed at helping special education families understand Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), featuring a presentation by Mrs. Summers and her team.

In addition, the Jewish Families Association (JFA) organized an educational program featuring grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, which received positive feedback. The Asian American Families Group celebrated the Lunar New Year with crafts, dancing, and performances, while the recent "UD Celebrate Black History is World History" event explored significant figures in Black history, emphasizing their contributions to the community.

Dr. Leon Smith, an Upper Dublin graduate, was recognized as Pennsylvania's Teacher of the Year, a notable achievement for the district. The meeting also addressed academic performance, with the teaching and learning team reviewing benchmark data to inform instructional strategies. Parents will receive communications to help them understand their children's assessment reports.

Athletic achievements were a highlight, with the girls' winter track team setting a new school record and earning a top ranking in Pennsylvania. Both boys and girls basketball teams claimed suburban league championship titles, and the swimming teams achieved historic victories, with the boys team winning their 30th consecutive league title.

Upcoming events include the high school's production of "Legally Blonde" and the annual "Music in Our Schools" celebration. The district is also preparing for its summer STEM academy and accepting nominations for the Upper Dublin Medals program.
