Polk County officials announced significant progress on the Grandstand project during the Public Safety and Public Works meeting held on December 3, 2024. An important Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with the fair, allowing the project to move forward as planned. The budget for the project has been approved, and further updates will be provided by Rod Polk in the coming weeks.

In addition to the Grandstand project, the meeting highlighted several updates from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC). A treatment court graduation is scheduled for this Friday, with three first-time offenders completing their program this month. The CJCC continues to support participants in various programs, including intoxicated driver and substance diversion initiatives.

Public Works also reported on the status of several infrastructure projects. The Clam Falls Dam is progressing well, with one lane currently open across the bridge. Officials are working to improve access for snowplows during the winter months. Meanwhile, the D. Kennedy Bridal Replacement project is set to kick off in the spring, pending final approvals from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The meeting also addressed ongoing challenges with recycling operations, particularly regarding heating issues in the facility. A meeting with engineers is scheduled to expedite solutions for maintaining a comfortable environment for staff and clients.

As winter approaches, preparations for the ATV trails are underway, with plans to open the frozen ground trail on December 16, aligning with neighboring Burnett County's schedule. Public Works officials are also actively addressing road maintenance, including pothole patching and brush clearing.

In a gesture of appreciation, the meeting acknowledged December 2 as Snowplow Driver Appreciation Day, recognizing the hard work and dedication of local snowplow drivers during harsh winter conditions. The highway department has completed equipment calibrations and is ready for the winter season, ensuring safe travel for residents.
