The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors convened on May 15, 2023, to address various community matters and recognize significant contributions from local residents and organizations. The meeting began with the attendance of key township officials, including the township manager, solicitor, and police chief, among others.
One of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of Rebecca Nowak, a member of Girl Scout Troop 2974, who received the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project focused on improving food quality at a local food pantry, ensuring families have access to healthier options. Rebecca will be honored at the upcoming Girl Scout Gold Award ceremony on May 21, 2023.
The board also acknowledged the efforts of six police department employees who organized a benefit for the family of fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper Martin Mack. The event, held on April 29, raised over $14,000 to support Trooper Mack's family. The officers recognized for their dedication included Paul Runner, Joe Calora, Derek Leonhauser, Mark Leonhauser, Melissa Robinson, and Cheyenne Keane.
In addition, the meeting featured a tribute to Heather Rivera, who has served as a volunteer on the Middletown Township Youth Aid Panel for nine years. Rivera is stepping down, and Bridal Bakshi will take over as the new coordinator. The Youth Aid Panel plays a crucial role in providing first-time nonviolent juvenile offenders with alternatives to court, emphasizing community service and rehabilitation.
The board also proclaimed May 2023 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Middletown Township. This proclamation highlights the contributions of these communities and calls for awareness and education regarding their history and achievements.
The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments on non-agenda items, allowing community members to voice their concerns and suggestions. The next Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for June 12, 2023, at 7 PM.
