The City Council of Clearlake held its regular meeting on November 7, 2024, where various topics were discussed, including updates on local animal shelter operations.

The meeting began with a presentation highlighting November's adoptable dog, Rose, a three-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. Rose was described as friendly and well-mannered, enjoying indoor playtime and being on a leash. The shelter staff noted that she might do well with another male dog but was uncertain about her compatibility with cats. Rose is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations, encouraging community members to visit the shelter to meet her and other available dogs.

Following the presentation, the council received an update on the shelter's intake and adoption statistics. The shelter reported an intake of 364 animals, with 318 leaving the facility—59 going to rescue, 226 returned to their owners, three adopted, and two euthanized. This resulted in a commendable live release rate of 98.67 percent. Currently, the shelter houses 58 dogs, including 55 adults and three puppies. Additionally, the shelter has performed 100 microchip placements, 33 vaccinations in clinics, 11 vaccinations, and 16 neuter and 13 spay surgeries.

The meeting concluded with a call for community support in adopting pets and participating in shelter activities, emphasizing the importance of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare in Clearlake.
