NTTA approves $500K contract for integrated public alert warning system

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) Board has approved two significant contracts aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and public safety during their meeting on March 12, 2025.

First, the board unanimously approved a contract renewal with BDO for payment card industry audit services, totaling $438,150 over three years. This renewal is crucial for maintaining compliance and ensuring the security of customer transactions. The contract will be funded through the operations and maintenance budget, reflecting NTTA's commitment to safeguarding customer data.

In a move to bolster emergency communication, the board also approved a contract for an Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) with Information Logistics, amounting to just under $500,000 for four years. This system will enable NTTA to send real-time alerts to drivers about significant roadway incidents, similar to the alerts received for emergencies like Amber Alerts. The IPAWS will allow for two-way communication, enabling drivers to receive updates and report issues directly to NTTA's safety operations center.

The implementation of this system is particularly timely, as it aligns with NTTA's goal to enhance public safety and improve response times during emergencies. The contract will also support the development of standard operating procedures approved by FEMA and the Texas Department of Emergency Management, ensuring that NTTA's alert system meets federal standards.
