East Tennessee State University (ETSU) celebrated remarkable achievements in its ROTC program during the recent Board of Trustees meeting, highlighting the exceptional performance of its cadets. Lieutenant Colonel Monash reported that three cadets ranked in the top 10% of active duty cadets nationwide, out of a pool of 6,000. Additionally, the program produced five distinguished military graduates, marking a record high in the current accessions era.
All commissioning cadets who requested active duty received it, a significant accomplishment given the competitive nature of military placements. The upcoming commissioning ceremony on May 5 is expected to draw public interest, showcasing the cadets' transition into various military branches, including infantry, military intelligence, and aviation.
The meeting also addressed the program's standing, with ETSU boasting the number one ROTC program in Tennessee and the second in its battalion. Board members expressed pride in the cadets' achievements, emphasizing the program's competitiveness against other institutions, including Notre Dame.
As the meeting concluded, Lieutenant Colonel Monash encouraged questions from the board, underscoring the importance of engaging with cadets as part of their training. The meeting not only celebrated past successes but also set the stage for future endeavors, including advanced training camps and international study opportunities for cadets.
