East Tennessee State University (ETSU) celebrated significant achievements during its Board of Trustees meeting on February 16, 2024, highlighting a record high in research funding and impressive academic performance.

Chair Latimer opened the meeting by congratulating newly appointed Trustee Tony Treadway, whose confirmation by the Tennessee General Assembly marks a new chapter for the board. The university reported an unprecedented $70.4 million in annual sponsored program and research funding for the last fiscal year, underscoring ETSU's commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

In a notable academic achievement, the Dale Gatton College of Pharmacy announced a remarkable 95.4% first-time pass rate on the NAPLACS exam, significantly surpassing the national average of 78.6%. This accomplishment positions ETSU among the top pharmacy schools in the nation, reinforcing the value of recent public funding support from the Tennessee General Assembly.

The meeting also featured discussions on upcoming community engagement events, including the Festival of Ideas, which will host bestselling authors Mitch Albom and Piper Kerman. This festival aims to foster meaningful dialogue on important societal issues.

Trustees reviewed various committee reports, including a proposal for a 0% tuition increase for the College of Medicine and adjustments to housing and food service rates. The Finance and Administration Committee discussed potential tuition increases of up to 4% for in-state undergraduate students, contingent on state budget approvals.

The Audit Committee reported no increase in campus crime for 2022, reflecting the effectiveness of ongoing public safety efforts.
